FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Question: How to install optional keel?
  • Answer: While this boat was originally designed as a flat bottom boat, it is also possible to add optional DIY keel to improve performance and directional stability. It can be done by placing elongated semi-rigid structure under air floor while it deflated. There are 2 Velcro straps glued to the bottom of the boat, under air floor. These straps were designed to hold down for example foam swimming noodle, that can act as an improvised keel, or perhaps some other structure, such as shaped wooden keel for example. Easiest and simplest solution would be to purchase $3 large diameter foam swimming noodle in local retail store, such as Walmart or Target. That noodle will imitate inflatable keel when placed under air floor. It also could be possible to place PVC tubing inside that foam noodle, for additional rigidity. Two straps glued on bottom of boat, under air mat, will hold 1-2 noodles down. To increase rigidity, you can insert aluminum tubes inside foam noodle.
  • Question: What makes this boat cheaper than other Saturn Boats of similar size?
  • Answer: While this boat is made by same factory, and from same fabric as all other Saturn boats, this boat model does represent barre minimum, with smaller tube diameters, more narrow hull, no inflatable keel and no additional layers on bottom of tubes. This is a basic, flat bottom, no frills inflatable boat.

Quick Tip! Worried about puncturing the air floor with a fishing hook, dog claws or sharp object? Get a piece of vinyl flooring or rubber mat from your local hardware store. Cut the vinyl to fit inside the boat, over the floor and your air floor will be almost indestructible! When deflating, just roll it up along with the boat for future use.

Note: Specifications and accessories are subject to change without notice. Max O/B Motor means: maximum power of outboard motor that can be safely used to plane the boat loaded to the maximum capacity at normal water surface conditions. Please exercise common sense and caution when using maximum motor capacity. Do not jump from wave to wave as new 4-stroke motors are much heavier then 2-stroke and provide extra strain on the transom. Under normal circumstances, with half the maximum persons/load capacity, 50% of maximum O/B power rating may be necessary to put the boat on plane.

I really like it! It's built tough at an affordable price. Her maiden voyage went very well. Don't do what I did which is assume the floor is not very firm and rush out and buy some plywood. Inflate it first and see if you like it. I think the plywood was overkill, a good mat or carpet would be fine for some extra protection. It's very firm like an inflatable paddleboard. Also, I never let an inflatable touch the ground, I always inflate on a blanket and move it to the water, never dragging it. I like it so much I'm kinda wanting a bigger one already! Ha!
